Tulsa - More than 300 representatives from nearly 200 companies met with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District during the fifth annual Meet the Corps Day event at Tulsa Technical College’s Owasso, campus, February 10.

Meet the Corps Day is an outreach program that gives businesses an opportunity to learn how best to work with Tulsa District.

“We’re really trying to provide information and access to industry so that they are fully empowered to be able to support us and the contract requirements we have that come up,” said Eugene Snyman, small business office deputy, Tulsa District.

The businesses attending were from a wide range of industries, said Snyman, including architectural and engineering firms, construction companies, environmental consulting firms, as well as businesses that provide work on upkeep and service projects.  Topics during the event included Veterans Vocational Rehabilitation, subcontracting, and breakout sessions such as “Top 5 Things Contractors Need to Know.”

The businesses also had an opportunity to have face-to-face discussions with Tulsa District experts on upcoming projects.  The event also allowed smaller businesses to network and explore subcontracting, Snyman said.

The whole idea, said Snyman, is to give more information to businesses to help them be successful in interacting with Tulsa District, whether it’s bidding or contracts.

“It’s all focused on, ‘how do we make you smarter so that you can help us better,’” said Snyman.
