Published July 29, 2019

Notification of Emergency Dredging:

ROBERT S. KERR POOL No.15

WEBBERS FALLS POOL No. 16

McCLELLAN-KERR ARKANSAS RIVER NAVIGATION SYSTEM, OKLAHOMA

Due to recent record floods, the Robert S. Kerr Pool No. 15 and Webbers Fall Pool No. 16 have experienced significant shoaling. The Navigation Channel in these areas is impassible. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District, has determined it is necessary to initiate dredging under emergency operation procedures to reduce severe economic loss. Environmental review will be conducted but may not be completed prior to commencement or completion of the emergency action. The appropriate resource agencies, State, and Tribal governments have been notified of this decision. Dredging will take place in the following locations:

ROBERT S. KERR POOL No 15: between NM 346.0 to 349.0, approximately 650,000 cubic yards of material.

WEBBERS FALLS POOL No. 16: at NM 366.6, approximately 70,000 cubic yards of material; between NM 380.0 to 381.0, approximately 250,000 cubic yards of material; NM 374.0 to 375.0, approximately 350,000 cubic yards of material.

Dredge spoil will be placed in a combination of open water and upland disposal sites.  The navigation channel in these areas is not passible, mariners are advised to use extreme caution when sailing at these locations.  Emergency dredging commenced on 25 July 2019 and will continue for approximately 120 days. These dates may be subject to change depending on multiple factors, including flow rates within the channel, weather, and unknown conditions that may be encountered during dredging operations.
