Broken Bow Lake Recreation

Fishing and Hunting

Broken Bow offers numerous hunting and fishing opportunities. Game species include large game such as deer, turkey and feral hog. Abundant small game populations exist in the hills surrounding Broken Bow.

Fish common in Broken Bow include Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Hybrid Striped Bass and Sand Bass. Crappie, Walleye, Channel and Flathead Catfish round out the primary fish species that attract anglers from around the four-state area but don't make up one of the most unique features of Broken Bow. The tailwater area contains a highly recognized year-round trout fishery. Anglers come from all surrounding states to try their luck at trophy Rainbow and Brown trout. State wildlife officials stock trout year round at several locations below Broken Bow dam ensuring that even a novice angler will have success at these strong acrobatic fish.

Regulations concerning hunting and fishing at Broken Bow are available from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation and at bait and tackle shops, and visitors are encouraged to review them prior to arriving at the lake.

Camping and Picnicking

Numerous opportunities are available for camping and picnicking at Broken Bow. These range from primitive tent sites along the shoreline to modern hotel and cabin facilities. As all recreation facilities are operated by the Oklahoma Department of Tourism and Recreation, visitors are encouraged to contact them directly with any questions.

Boating

The same terrain features that make the lake such a beautiful place to relax exist just under the surface. High ridges that rise up to (or just under) the surface and deep valleys exist throughout the lake. A quality depth finder is a "must have" item for boating on Broken Bow as the water may rise from depths of more than fifty feet to extremely shallow visible or submerged islands. For recreation area, campsite or boat ramp availability, please contact the Beavers Bend State Parks office at 580-494-6300 or 580-494-6538.

ALWAYS wear your "PFD," Personal Flotation Device, while boating and engaging in water activities. If you don't wear it, it won't work!
