Hulah Lake Recreation

Fishing and Hunting

Hulah Lake provides excellent opportunities for fishing and hunting. Principal species of fish in the lake include largemouth bass, white bass, crappie, channel catfish, flathead catfish, and bullhead catfish.

Approximately 8,900 acres of project lands is licensed to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation for wildlife management purposes. Two thousand acres of this land has been set aside as a State waterfowl refuge; the remainder is managed for upland game and white-tailed deer and is open to the public as a public hunting area. The game species present, and their relative abundance is as follows: deer (abundant), morning dove (good), waterfowl (good), bobwhite quail (good), prairie chicken (low), wild turkey (fair), cottontail rabbit (good) and squirrel (good). 

Camping, Picnicking, and Swimming

Recreational facilities which include boat launching ramps, camping and picnicking sites, beaches and sanitary facilities have been provided in the developed park areas located around the lake.

Boating

Boating on the lake is in accordance with Oklahoma and Kansas boating laws and Corps of Engineers' regulations. Operate your boat in a controlled, safe manner at all times. 

Sightseeing

Hulah Lake is located in a farming and ranching community where grazing cattle and working cowboys are familiar sights along any access road. Upon arrival at the lake, visitors will be impressed with the dam structure itself. The lake is located in the northern edge of the Osage Hills. The gently rolling terrain gradually slopes to the waters edge creating an attractive shoreline along the adjacent grasslands and forest areas. This picturesque setting is an open invitation to the visitor for picnicking, camping, hiking, and sightseeing.
