Lake Texoma Recreation

Fishing and Hunting

Lake Texoma offers 89,000 surface acres of water for fishing and 90,000 acres of public land that is set aside for hunting.   Texoma is known as the "Striper Capital of the World."  This lake is one of the few reservoirs in the nation where striped bass reproduce naturally.  Other popular species include largemouth and smallmouth bass, white bass, hybrid striped bass, white crappie, black crappie, channel catfish, flathead catfish and blue catfish. Popular game species hunted on Texoma include deer, turkey, small game, dove and other migratory game birds, waterfowl and feral hogs. Hunting and fishing regulations and licenses may be obtained from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife or Texas Parks and Wildlife.

Camping and Picnicking

Lake Texoma provides over 1,000 campsites ranging from primitive tent to concrete full hookup RV sites that will accommodate the largest of vehicles. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers alone operates over 700 campsites located in 10 parks conveniently located all around Lake Texoma.  Accommodations can also be found in State Parks operated by both the State of Oklahoma and Texas as well as privately owned resorts.  Day use areas for picnicking and swimming can be found at East and West Burns Run, Eisenhower State Park and Texoma State Park.

Boating

With over 89,000 acres of water and miles of sandy beaches, boaters will find that Lake Texoma offers a variety of opportunities for all types of boating enthusiasts from sailboats to powerboats.  Enjoy deep open water and sheltered coves alike.  Many marinas around the lake also offer boats and jet ski rentals.

Sightseeing

Lake Texoma and the surrounding area provides visitors with a variety of activities year round.  Hagerman Wildlife Refuge offers a 4-mile Wildlife Drive where visitors can observe many different species of both native and migratory wildlife.  Fort Washita, constructed in 1842, is located on the north side of the lake near Durant, Oklahoma.  Many other towns and communities located near the shores of Lake Texoma also hold festivals and events.

Trails

Lake Texoma offers a variety of recreational opportunities to its nearly 7 million annual customers.  A popular activity that countless recreational enthusiasts enjoy is exploring various different nature trails around the lake.  In Platter Flats recreation area, visitors have the opportunity to bring their horses and trail ride the 11 mile equestrian trail.  The Cross Timbers Hiking Trail begins in Juniper Point recreation area and winds west some 15 miles along the southern shoreline of the lake through Cedar Bayou and Paw Paw Creek resorts to Rock Creek Camp.  Between Juniper Point and Cedar Bayou the hiker travels high above the lake on the rocky ledges that make up the shoreline.  From these high vantage points one is refreshed by beautiful views of the lake and its shores.
