    The need to cultivate a new generation of engineers is so important that the USACE Chief of Engineers has STEM named as a priority. Tulsa District is very active in the STEM program.

    Tulsa District hosts Eufaula Lake listening session

    Col. Michael Teague, Tulsa District commander, held a Commander’s Listening Session in the Eufaula High School auditorium Dec. 18. The session, which had approximately 80 attendees, was an opportunity to update community members on a variety of topics concerning Eufaula Lake.

    When Sgt. Jay Silk, Operation Warfighter Soldier at the Tenkiller Lake office, walked into the Oklahoma National Guard’s Christmas party, he expected a fun evening with his family and fellow soldiers. But things are not always as they seem, Silk and another Wounded Warrior, Cpl. Scott Harper, were surprised with a Purple Heart ceremony.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers personnel, members of the New York City Police Department and the New York City Housing Authority team up to move a car so that a power generator can be placed at a nearby apartment building. The USACE Power Planning and Response Team was deployed to New York City in support of the power mission assigned to USACE by FEMA after Superstorm Sandy caused widespread power outages in October.

    The Tulsa District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers supported the recovery efforts for Superstorm Sandy by deploying several employees to multiple locations in the United States to assist in the mission.

Ed Pulido (brown jacket), and retired U.S. Army Sgt. Ronny Sweger and his sons, Brett, Briggs, and Brooks Sweger break ground for the Honor Cottege at Skiatook Lake, Okla., Nov. 28. The Sweger children are recipients of Folds of Honor scholarships for their future education.

    Taking the Wounded Warrior recovery process a step further

    Once a service member is wounded, in battle or the line of duty, they are taken to a military hospital to recover. Those hospitals are built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of its military construction program. Now, in the USACE Southwestern Division, there are plans for that recovery process to evolve from the hospital to a special cottage at a Corps lake to allow invisible wounds to heal.
