TULSA — Parks at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District lakes will be opening very soon but visitors will need to bring along their patience because a shortage of gate attendants will pose some inconvenience.

Gate attendants provide a big part of the customer service mission to visitors for the Corps by answering questions, checking-in campers, explaining rules and serving as emergency contacts for possible safety concerns. Those duties will need to be handled by park rangers in addition to their other duties and the Corps asks visitors to be understanding and patient if they go to a lake where gate attendant positions have not yet been filled.

"Our gate attendants play a vital role in our recreation mission and we are doing everything we can to find qualified individuals to fill them," said Earl Groves, chief, Operations Division.

There are approximately 10 gate attendant vacancies across Tulsa District which includes all of Oklahoma and part of southern Kansas and northern Texas. The Corps advertised the paid gate attendant positions earlier in the year but still have several opportunities for interested, outgoing individuals to serve. Anybody who enjoys camping, the great outdoors and people is encouraged to apply.
