Firewood and Tree Disease
Monday, September 11, 2017

The Emerald Ash Borer is decimating populations of Green Ash in the eastern United States.  It has been found in Atchison, Doniphan, Douglas, Jefferson, Johnson, Leavenworth, Shawnee, and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas.

For this reason, firewood from Ash trees located east of Kansas or from any Kansas County listed above should not be brought to our lake.

Likewise, Thousand Cankers Disease, found in Black Walnuts, is working its way north and east from the southwestern United State.  Wood from Walnut trees located west of Kansas should not be brought to our lake.

In our parks, visitors may notice purple or tan triangular cardboard boxes hanging from the trees.  These are insects traps used to give advance notice of insect infestations.  Please do not disturb them.
