— Even though the recreation season is several months away, it’s never too early to think about how you can help the Tulsa District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers enhance the recreational experience for millions of visitors.

With more than 250 recreational sites and nearly 7,000 campsites at 38 projects across three states, Oklahoma, northern Texas, and southern Kansas, gate attendants and volunteers play a vital role in our recreation mission.

Volunteers help Corps staff maintain and clean parks, enhance recreational trails, and complete a variety of other tasks that help keep our projects beautiful and enjoyable for visitors. Applications for volunteers are currently being accepted at various lakes.

Gate attendants provide a big part of the customer service mission to visitors for the Corps by answering questions, checking-in campers, explaining rules and serving as emergency contacts for possible safety concerns. Gate attendant positions are paid and are awarded by contract to the winning bidder. The bidding process is currently open, but please be aware bids must be received by the closing date which ranges from Dec. 5 to Dec. 12 depending on the lake.

For more information on volunteer opportunities, please contact Amanda Palmer at 918-669-4903.

For more information on how to bid for gate attendant positions, please visit www.fbo.gov or contact Sherri Stangle at 918-669-7105.
