Open House Workshop: Potential Commercial Recreational Lease of North Island

Published Feb. 14, 2017
The Tulsa District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host an open house workshop related to a potential future commercial recreational lease of all or portions of North Island at Lake Texoma, Oklahoma and Texas. This island is located in the central pool of the lake north of Pottsboro, Texas, south of Kingston, Oklahoma, and northeast of Treasure Island at Lake Texoma. A future recreational lease could include development of low-impact and temporary commercial recreational facilities and amenities. Interested persons are invited to stop by the open house to visit information tables and discuss the proposal with Corps personnel. The workshop will be conducted between 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2017 in an informal, come-and-go format with no formal presentation. The workshop will be held at:

Pottsboro High School
901 Highway 120, Pottsboro, TX
Thursday, February 23, 2017
6:00-8:00 p.m.

In accordance with scoping provisions of the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), the Tulsa District is soliciting comments on the potential lease and recreational development of North Island. We are interested in receiving comments and identifying topics to be addressed in a future environmental assessment (EA) to be prepared for this action. Should a recreational lease be approved, potential low-impact and temporary recreational facilities and services to be developed could include shuttle services, tours, removable boat mooring facilities, beach umbrellas and loungers, a beach bar and DJ music, and floating retail facilities for sale of waters sports-related items and snacks. Any developed facilities would be operated and maintained by a yet-to-be-determined commercial entity with admission or use fees charged for use of some or all facilities. All development would be designed and operated for rapid removal and in a manner allowing full operation of Lake Texoma for authorized project purposes. Comment forms will be provided at the workshop or comments can be provided in any form, regardless of workshop attendance. Comments must be received by March 24, 2017. Comments and questions regarding the open house workshop or the lease proposal can be directed to:
