High water to impact Corps recreation areas

TULSA - High water levels at Tulsa District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lakes has resulted in the closure or planned closure of some Corps facilities at impacted lakes.

As of 11:00 am March 21, 2012, the Tulsa District USACE anticipates affected lakes or reservoirs to crest at not more than 50 percent of flood storage capacity. Lakes expected to crest by March 22 are: Fort Gibson, Eufaula, Pat Mayse, Pine Creek, Wister, and Broken Bow. Lakes expected to crest by March 23 are: Penscola and Sardis.

Corps personnel at the affected lakes are taking measures to close some campsites, parks and boat ramps. Campers will be notified to move due to rising water and electrical service to some areas will be shut off.

Closures at Fort Gibson Lake will include Wahoo Bay, Taylor Ferry North, Jackson Bay, Damsite North, Toppers, Wildwood, and Flatrock Public Use Areas. Partial closings at Fort Gibson Lake will include Taylor Ferry South, Bluebill, and Rocky Point. Closures at Eufaula Lake will include a total of about 10 sites combined at Highway 9, Porum Landing and Oak Ridge. At Hugo Lake, Rattan Landing will be closed. At Pine Creek, Little River Park will be closed. At Tenkiller, the Strayhorn Day Use boat ramp, Petit 1 boat ramp, and Elk Creek boat ramp will be closed.
