Lower than normal lake levels hazard for boaters at John Redmond Reservoir

Published April 13, 2011

TULSA- Boaters are urged to use caution while boating on John Redmond Reservoir due to lower than normal lake levels.

The lake levels at the reservoir will be kept approximately one and a half foot below normal for the next one to two years to perform maintenance at the dam.

The lake levels will fluctuate depending on the season. Boaters should anticipate lower water levels during spring and fall seasons and anticipated periods of heavy rain that fall within the watershed which could cause an increase in flows coming into John Redmond Reservoir

The lowering of the lake levels is necessary to allow contractor work on the tainter (flood) gates at the John Redmond Dam.

Recreational users should also be aware because lower than normal lake elevations may expose boating hazards around the reservoir that may have been submerged with normal water elevations and boaters are urged to use caution while boating and launching boats.

For more information about current lake levels, visit the Water Control Data System or the daily report link under the Lakes and River Information link on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District Homepage, www.swt.usace.army.mil or call the John Redmond Reservoir office at 620-364-8614.
