Public comment period open and public information workshop to be held to discuss Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Denison Land Conveyance, Lake Texoma, OK and TX

TULSA – The Tulsa District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Denison Land Conveyance, Lake Texoma, Oklahoma and Texas.

The Tulsa District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Denison Land Conveyance, Lake Texoma, Oklahoma and Texas.

Public comments are currently being accepted and a public workshop will be held Nov. 15.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District, has assessed the environmental impacts associated with implementation of sections of the Water Resources Development Act of 2007. This legislation directs the Secretary of the Army to convey at fair market value to the City of Denison, Texas, all right, title, and interest of the United States in and to approximately 900 acres of land located in Grayson County, Texas. The property is currently held in fee by the U.S. Government and managed by the Tulsa District as part of Lake Texoma.

Public comments may be submitted by mail or e-mail. Comments must be received by Wednesday, December 21, 2011. Comments received on the Draft EIS will be included with and addressed in a Final EIS which will be circulated for further review.

The Tulsa District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host a public information workshop Tuesday, Nov. 15, to inform the public, solicit comments, and address questions regarding the Draft Environmental Impact Statement.

 

The workshop will be held from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Denison Senior Citizens’ Center, 531 West Chestnut, Denison, Texas. The workshop will be an open-house format with no set or formal presentations. Interested parties are invited to attend, visit information tables and discuss the Draft EIS. Public Comments will also be accepted at the meeting.

A Draft Environmental Impact Statement has been prepared for this action under the National Environmental Policy Act and is available at www.swt.usace.army.mil. Hardcopies are also available for review at Denison, Texas, and Madill, Okla., public libraries.
