Lake Texoma blue-green algae warning reduced to lake-wide advisory

TULSA – Test results from blue-green algae samples taken Feb. 22, 2012 at Lake Texoma show blue-green algae cell densities still exceed the ADVISORY level.

The lake-wide advisory remains in effect. Water contact is still discouraged.

The most recent results indicate three locations are still above the ADVISORY threshold of 20,000 cells per milliliter of water established by the World Health Organization's guidelines for recreational waters. The samples were analyzed by the University of Oklahoma Biological Station, Plankton Ecology and Limnology Laboratory.

Washita River Arm –

Johnson Creek: 9,554 cells/ml

Little Glasses Creek/Marina: 0 cells/ml

Lakeside PUA/Rock Creek: 13,229 cells/ml

Main Lake Body in front of the dam –

Eisenhower State Park (historical station UNT-17): 29,030 cells/ml

Little Mineral Arm: 0 cells/ml

Red River Arm-

Treasure Island: 60,633 cells/ml

HWY 377/HWY 99 Bridge (Willis Bridge): 19,109 cells/ml

Sheppard Annex: 47,772 cells/ml

The next round of sampling will be taken in mid-March.
