TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has cancelled campsite reservations for all campgrounds at Lake Tenkiller and Lake Eufaula due to significant flood damage to its parks.

“Our campgrounds suffered extensive damage due to flooding in May and June,” said Kent Dunlap, Tulsa District chief of Recreation Services.  “We realize it is disappointing to the public, but the extent of damage means we must focus on again making our recreation areas safe for visitors.”

Eufaula Lake has cancelled reservations at its parks for the remainder of the recreation season, which ends Sept. 30, 2015. Parks at Eufaula include Belle Star, Brooken Cove, Dam Site South, Gentry Creek, Highway 9 Landing and Porum Landing.

Tenkiller Lake has cancelled reservations at its campsites for July due to flooding and other damage following the high water. Parks at Tenkiller Lake include Chicken Creek, Cookson Bend, Elk Creek, Pettit Bay I, Pettit Bay II, Snake Creek and Strayhorn Landing.

“Everyone who receives a cancellation notice will get a 100% refund, but we ask that you please be patient,” Dunlap said. “We are trying to get back to normal, but record-breaking rains in May and June have created delays for all of us.”

Camp sites at Eufaula and Tenkiller lakes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis as sites are restored. “Our staff is working to repair and reopen parks and camping sites as quickly as possible, but more rain will slow down our progress,” Dunlap said.

Guests who made camping reservations at Tenkiller Lake in July and at Eufaula through September 30 should allow the National Recreation Reservation System between five and seven working days to process their cancellation refund.

The Corps is experiencing many closures and it will take awhile to process everyone’s refund. We recommend guests call the NRRS at 877-444-6777 after seven working days to determine the status of your reservation. Please have your confirmation number available when you call. The NRRS is making every effort to notify customers by automated messaging system.

For more information please contact the Eufaula Lake Office at (918) 484-5135 or the Tenkiller Lake Office at 918-487-5252.
