  9. Temporary Impacts to Tulsa District Parks for 2025 Recreation Season

    TULSA – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District will temporarily close or reduce services at recreation areas across Kansas and Oklahoma for the 2025 recreation season. The USACE does not currently have the staffing to maintain all recreation sites at normal levels of service. These temporary adjustments will affect select areas to ensure visitor safety and prompt availability for executing flood risk management responsibilities.

    The Tulsa District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers called in reinforcements to remove a radio tower near Teterville, Kansas, April 23, 2025. The 82nd Engineer Battalion, 1st Infantry Division out of Fort Riley, Kansas provided explosive enthusiasm and support to remove the repeater tower, a once vital piece of communication infrastructure for the Kansas Area lake offices in the second half of the 20th Century, that became obsolete due to emerging technology.

All Corps of Engineer parks and boat ramps open at Tenkiller Lake

TULSA – Despite rumors, all U.S. Army Corps of Engineers parks and boat ramps at Tenkiller Lake are open and available for use and for reservation by calling the Reservation Service at 1-877-444-6777 or visiting www.recreation.gov.

Despite rumors, all U.S. Army Corps of Engineers parks and boat ramps at Tenkiller Lake are open and available for use and for reservation by calling the Reservation Service at 1-877-444-6777 or visiting .

The only exception is Elk Creek which is still first-come-first-serve until June 12. After that date, it will be available for reservations.

Due to recent flooding in the parks, not all campsites are available. As maintenance is completed, more sites will become available.

Tenkiller Lake is still three feet above normal. Boaters are urged to use caution while operating on the lake because floating debris may present a hazard. As always, boaters are encouraged to wear a life jacket.
