TULSA – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District advises visitors to be aware of temporary delays due to a series of parking lot, road and boat ramp projects aimed at improving the long-term visitor experience at Oologah Lake.
The first location for road and parking lot improvements will take place at Hawthorne Day Use Area, May 9.
Visitors should expect intermittent lane closures and limited parking lot access.
“The contractor’s work schedules and the areas of work will change due to weather conditions and heightened times of visitation but it’s our priority to provide Oologah Lake visitors with the highest level of service and safety while these road repairs are performed,” said Bobby Parkey, Oologah Lake Manager.
Other improvement projects at Oologah Lake include:
Verdigris River - Access road and parking lots,
Overlook – Access road and parking lots
Spencer Creek – Entry road, beach parking lot and boat ramp area
Blue Creek – Boat ramp, parking area and electrical camping loop road
Typically road repair projects for public use areas are scheduled outside of recreation season but funding for the projects was not available until late 2017 and by that time, ground temperatures were too low to perform road improvements.
“We strongly encourage anyone heading out to the lake this summer to contact the Oologah Lake Project office for an up-to-date status of campground access and closures,” Parkey said.
The Oologah Lake project office phone number is (918) 443-2250.
