TULSA, Okla. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District announced today that Corps-operated campgrounds along the Oklahoma portion of the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System that were closed for the 2013 recreation season will be open for the 2014 season.
The parks are as follows:
· McClellan-Kerr Navigation System: Afton Landing, Tullahassee Loop
· Webbers Falls: Brewers Bend, Spaniard Creek
· Robert S. Kerr: Applegate Cove, Short Mountain Cove, Cowlington Point
These parks were closed for the 2013 recreation season due to a reduction in federal funding.
There is a change this year to Applegate Cove, Cowlington Point, and Short Mountain Cove. These parks were previously included in the National Recreation Reservation System (NRRS), which allowed campsites to be reserved in advance. The parks are no longer included in the NRRS and sites are now available first-come first-served, as are all other parks along the system.
An honor vault system will be used to collect camping fees. A full-time volunteer or gate attendant will be available at the parks to assist campers and answer questions.
