Corps evaluating options for future of Walnut Creek State Park on Keystone Lake

Published July 9, 2014

TULSA, Okla. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Tulsa District is evaluating options for the future of Walnut Creek State Park on Keystone Lake after receiving notification June 30 from the Oklahoma Department of Tourism of their wish to terminate their recreational lease that includes Walnut Creek.

The Corps is considering three options: The Corps could resume operating the park if adequate funding is available; a non-federal public agency could enter into a cooperative agreement to operate the park; the park would close.

The ultimate goal is to keep the park open and operational for the visiting public.

Keystone State Park will remain open.

The Corps entered into the recreational lease with the state to operate Walnut Creek in 1966.

The Corps will announce when a decision is made concerning the future of Walnut Creek.
