Operations
Published July 28, 2025

SHOALING NM 421.3 TO 421.4 LOCK 18 LOWER APPROACH USE EXTREAM CAUTION WHILE TRANSITTING THIS AREA

Mariners are advised to use extreme caution while transiting the downstream approach to Lock 18, NM 421.3 to 421.4.  Shoaling is encroaching the left descending channel into the Lock approach ~20-ft off the guard wall.  Channel width is restricted to 90-ft of adequate depths. Upbound doubles may experience difficulties having adequate depths while transiting lightboat around barges.  To avoid the shoaling, mariners are advised to restrict tow widths to 90-ft transiting the lower approach.  Please see attached survey for further details.
