Webbers Falls Lock and Dam News and Notices

Visitors urged to use caution

The developed Arkansas River presents many unfamiliar hazards to lake boaters and fishermen. Turbulent water, strong currents, wakes from large vessels, and hidden obstacles outside the marked navigation channel are hazards that users of the river can expect. Operators of underpowered or overloaded small boats will find it difficult to navigate in these conditions, especially in areas near the locks and dams, where signs warn small craft operators to keep a safe distance. Pleasure boaters should avoid wakes caused by larger vessels and refrain from crossing directly in front of or to the rear of passing commercial vessels. Hazards such as poisonous plants, insects, and snakes exist in the area’s woodlands and along the shoreline.
