Welcome to Optima Lake

Optima Lake is located in the panhandle of Oklahoma in Texas County on the Beaver River, approximately 4 1/2 miles northeast of Hardesty, and 20 miles east of Guymon. All public use areas around the lake are land access points only, and do not offer swimming, boating, fishing or camping opportunities. The water level in the lake has never reached normal pool. Visitors should be aware that the lake's level is very low, and is often times dry.   Visitors wanting to picnic or view wildlife should come for the quiet natural setting -- with or without water in the lake area.

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation manages 8,062 acres of land within the Optima Wildlife Management Area and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service manages 4,333 acres of land within the Optima National Wildlife Refuge.  Public hunting areas are provided through both agencies and are governed by state and federal rules and regulations, special restrictions may apply. The primary species available are quail, deer, dove, pheasant, turkey and rabbit. Links are provided to both agencies from the “Other Recreation Links” page on the left of this page.
