FORT GIBSON SPILLWAY BRIDGE REPLACEMENT

FORT GIBSON BRIDGE REPLACEMENT FACT SHEET

The Fort Gibson Dam spillway bridge replacement is a critical public safety project to replace the aging State Highway 251A bridge, which was originally constructed in 1953. Due to significant structural degradation found during recent inspections, the bridge was closed to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

This project will deliver a modern, resilient bridge, restoring a vital transportation link for residents and visitors and ensuring the continued safe operation of this important infrastructure.

  • Prioritizing Public Safety: The immediate and indefinite closure of the original bridge was a necessary step taken by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after inspections revealed accelerated deterioration, making its replacement essential for public safety.
  •  Innovative Material Application: This project utilizes cutting-edge materials like Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC). This innovative concrete provides exceptional strength and durability, leading to a longer-lasting, more resilient bridge that requires less future maintenance.
  • Restoring Community Access: The replacement of this vital bridge, which is the longest in the Tulsa District's inventory, will restore a key transportation route over the Grand-Neosho River, minimizing long-term disruption for the community and visitors to the Fort Gibson Lake area.
