  1. Construction to temporarily close Texas Damsite campground and fishing and day use area at Lake Texoma

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers today announced that the Lake Texoma Project Office, the Texas Damsite Campground and the Texas Damsite Fishing and Day Use area at Lake Texoma will be closed to the visiting public from April 30 through May 22, 2025.

  2. USACE closes SH-251A Bridge over Fort Gibson

    Tulsa District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers closed the Fort Gibson Dam Spillway Bridge, April 21 in the interest of public safety. Engineers identified critical findings during a recent inspection and recommended the closure. The bridge condition does not pose an immediate dam safety risk, nor does it affect powerhouse operations at Fort Gibson Dam.

  4. High water levels mean recreation closures at Pine Creek Lake in Oklahoma

    Elevated water levels caused by recent heavy rainfall prompted the closure of public use areas at Pine Creek Lake, April 7, 2025. The high water is part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ flood risk management efforts. By holding back excess runoff, the lake reduces downstream flood risk and helps protect surrounding communities.

  8. Data in the wind: Tulsa area winds cause incorrect data, damage at Skiatook Lake

    Recent, heavy winds in Eastern Oklahoma caused some strange inflow data to appear on the Skiatook Lake level page, March19. Despite no rainfall in Skiatook Lake’s watershed, the hourly inflow appeared to fluctuate between about 200 cubic feet per second and over 1,000 cfs, from midnight to 11 a.m. According to Joseph Large, chief of water management, Tulsa District, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, high winds in the area caused the gage at the dam to produce incorrect information.

30 Day Comment Period - Fort Supply Wildlife Management Area Shooting Range

This public notice offers an opportunity for all interested parties to comment on the proposed improvements of the Fort Supply Wildlife Management Area (Fort Supply WMA) shooting range, providing information necessary to inform the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) for evaluation and review. 

The ODWC, has prepared a Draft Environmental Assessment (Draft EA) in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1968, as amended, for the proposed renovation and expansion of the Fort Supply WMA shooting range in Woodward County, Oklahoma. The Draft EA was prepared to assess and document potential effects to the human and natural environment of the project’s Proposed Action. The Draft EA and supporting information are provided with issuance of this Public Notice on 15 November 2024 to initiate the 30-day public review and comment period. Therefore, the 30-day public comment period for this Draft EA runs from November 15, 2024 to December 15, 2024.


The ODWC is proposing a renovation and expansion of the existing shooting range within the Fort Supply WMA, located approximately 3.4 miles north of SH-15 on the north side of E County Road 39 and 5.5 miles northeast of Fargo, Oklahoma in Section 20, Township 22W, Range 23N, or at 36.449571, -99.581239. The proposed project includes reconfiguring the existing rifle range and adding an additional rifle range, a pistol range, a shotgun/trap range, archery range, fencing and gates, and restrooms, including American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant parking and access throughout. The shooting range reconfiguration will include a 100-yard and up-to 600-yard rifle ranges, and a 50-yard pistol range, each equipped with a covered metal shooting house and benches, divided by minimum 10-foot-high compacted earth berms and including minimum 20-foot-high compacted earth backstops. The rifle and pistol range will be located north of E County Road 39, oriented north, while the shotgun/trap range will be located to the north of E County Road 39, oriented northwest, with a 700-foot shot-fall zone, a concrete pad for trap shooting and a concrete pathway to a concrete pad for a temporary target thrower. The archery range will be located south of the range and positioned east. The facility would be accessed by two gravel parking areas equipped with small concrete areas that are ADA van accessible. The objective is to provide public shooting access and opportunities in Oklahoma for new and existing hunters, and recreational and competitive shooters, while also encouraging hunters and shooters to enhance their skills by becoming more proficient with firearms, promoting safe and responsible hunting and shooting practices, and providing safe and environmentally responsible shooting areas.
