TULSA — Water Releases from Lake Tenkiller were increased to 14,200 cubic feet per second Thursday.
— Water Releases from Lake Tenkiller were increased to 14,200 cubic feet per second Thursday.
These releases will bring the downstream channel to maximum capacity. The water is not expected to rise above the channel.
"We need to release as much water as possible and maxing out the channel while at the same time impacting as few people as possible," said Col. Michael Teague, Tulsa District commander. "By releasing as much water as possible, we can create space in the lake so we can catch the next storm."
Currently, the lake is expected to crest at 663.6 early Friday. If additional rain occurs and the flood control pool reaches full capacity, greater releases from Tenkiller Dam may be necessary. These could have potential impacts to residents downstream of the dam.
Corps personnel will closely monitor the lake around the clock. Individuals downstream of the dam should follow guidance from local emergency officials should releases from the dam become necessary.
All Corps operated recreational parks and boat ramps at Tenkiller Lake are closed until further notice.
