TULSA – Campgrounds and boat ramps at the eight U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District lakes in Kansas are open for the Memorial Day weekend, with a few exceptions.
Marion Reservoir
French Creek and Hillsboro Cove boat ramps are closed due to low lake levels.
Cottonwood Point has one accessible boat ramp and one closed boat ramp due to low lake levels.
Council Grove Lake
Kit Carson boat ramp is closed due to low lake levels.
Neosho Park and Kanza View Park will be closed through Memorial Day weekend due to road paving. The Neosho Park boat ramp is also closed.
All Corps-managed recreation areas and boat ramps are open at Elk City, Big Hill, and Fall River lakes as well as John Redmond Reservoir. The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism manage the recreation areas at Toronto and El Dorado lakes.
Visitors should also be aware that there are lower than normal lake levels at El Dorado and Council Grove lakes and Marion Reservoir. All other Tulsa District lakes in Kansas are at normal level.
“Boaters need to use caution at lakes with lower than normal lake levels,” said Eugene Goff, operations project manager. “Objects such as rocks and trees that are completely covered under normal conditions may be exposed and could cause damage to boats.”
In fiscal year 2012, approximately 2.3 million people visited the eight Tulsa District lakes in Kansas.
“We are excited and ready for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend,” Goff said. “We want everyone to come and enjoy the lake, but do it safely and always wear a life jacket.”
